Utah | Beyond The National Parks

Utah National Parks

Utah is packed with National parks that attract adventure seekers from all over the world to its colorful canyons, ‘delicate arches’ and majestic mountains. Some choose the #Vanlife to tour postcard-worthy features found in these parks. But an escape to these natural wonders doesn’t always mean leaving the crowds behind. Native Campervans in Salt Lake City has a few suggestions for those seeking solitude and adventure.

SAN RAFAEL SWELL

Get ready for a “swell” time! This is an area that measures roughly 70 by 40 miles in size filled to the brim with buttes and mesas. Explore amongst the Hoodoos in Goblin Valley and you may forget what planet you are on.

Camping Recommendation

Wedge Overlook

Swing open your van doors to peer into a world of juniper trees and expansive canyons. You can be at this isolated free campsite in less than 3 hours from Salt Lake City.

UINTA MOUNTAINS

The Uinta (you-in-ta) Mountains are unique as they are unknown. They are the tallest range of mountains running east to west in the contiguous United States and are only 1.5 hours from Salt Lake City. Because they’re not “on the way” to any of the main Utah attractions, they are often overlooked. If you’re searching for serene alpine lakes teeming with wildlife then look no further.

Camping Recommendation

Murdock Basin Road

Just over 20 miles driving up Mirror Lake Highway turn off onto Murdock Basin Road. Once the Road becomes dirt you can park your campervan on either side with a great selection of spots.

BEAR EARS (AREA)

Bears Ears is a National Monument just over 5.5 hours from Salt Lake City. The monument itself is spectacular but is also surrounded by some of the most off-the-grid camping in southern Utah.

Camping Recommendation

Edge of the Beyond

Ridges, cliffs, and views for days! Access this free spot from cottonwood road just 25 miles from Blanding, Utah. A one-word description of the site: Secluded.

BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS

Find yourself in a world of glimmering salt and remote mountains just 1 hour and 45 minutes west of Salt Lake City.

Camping Recommendation

Bonneville Salt Flats BLM

Drive up Leppy Pass Road to access free dispersed camping. There’s practically no shade here so staying in a conversion van is a great option if you’re looking to soak in the views and not the sun.
